Bob & Rose [Jul. 16th, 2007|01:21 am]
Six Degrees of Doctor Who

This is an excellent miniseries written by Russel T. Davies about a gay man, Bob (darling Alan Davies from QI), and a straight woman, Rose (fantastic Lesley Sharp from also RTD's "The Second Coming"), who fall in love and the consequent rejection they suffer from their friends. Six episodes of possibly RTD's finest work. It's moving and funny and Bob and Rose make a charming and sexy couple.
A few squees for Doctor Who fans: Bob's mom (you'll LOVE her) is played by Penelope Wilton (Harriet Jones) and she talks about Hannibal crossing the Alps! Also, Bob's best friend is played by Jessica Hynes (Joan Redfern in Season 3, an interesting role reversal ;)).
If you search for "Bob and Rose" on guba.com  you can see the episodes via streaming and/or direct download. *wanders off whistling*
A a sidenote, thanks for the "Takin' Over the Asylum" recommendation y'all. Loved it! "I don't have to conform to the vagaries of Time and Space. I'm a Loony for God's sake!" Hee!

There's a scene in Blackpool where David Tennant walks in front of a Doctor Who museum. I rewinded and watched that scene three times because I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It's like the Bad Wolf: little signs scattered across time and space all leading him to where he is now.

ooooo I missed that!!! Probably because I was to busy staring at David LOL

Which ep is that in? I so need to check that out now!

What got me cracking up was having a major Blackpool moment during the "scissor Sister" scene in DW The last of the Time Lords. I practically squee'd during that lol
It was almost like when Ripley was getting into Carlisle's face during the "These Boots were made for Walking" part, well, to me anyway lol
It really made me wonder what was going through Davids mind during the filming of that sequence, if he had a Blackpool flashback, or if him even realizes all of the parallels in some of the stuff that he is doing has with DW! LOL

I'm not really a romantic comedy person at all, but "Bob and Rose" is really the exception to the real. It's just funny and charming and extremely well-written and acted. I can't recommend it highly enough.
